Whitehall or Just a Pittsburgh Address?
Homes in Whitehall use “Pittsburgh, PA” mailing addresses, and the ZIP codes are shared with neighboring communities. A Pittsburgh address on a listing does not mean the home is in Whitehall or in the City of Pittsburgh. Each neighbor has its own services, taxes, and school district:
| Municipality | School District |
|---|---|
| Whitehall Borough | Baldwin-Whitehall |
| Baldwin Borough | Baldwin-Whitehall |
| Brentwood | Brentwood Borough |
| Castle Shannon | Keystone Oaks |
| Bethel Park | Bethel Park |
| Overbrook (City of Pittsburgh) | Pittsburgh Public Schools |
To confirm a property’s municipality and school district, check the deed, the tax bill, or Allegheny County’s online real estate records.

A Brief History
Whitehall was once part of Baldwin Township. Residents of several of the township’s wards petitioned to form their own borough to get better services and zoning, and Whitehall was incorporated on January 5, 1948. The name likely comes from Silas D. Prior’s tavern on Brownsville Road, which was renamed the White Hall in the 1850s. Another story ties the name to the old Whitehall Driving Park.
Much of Whitehall was built out in the years after World War II, as roads like Route 51 made the South Hills an easy drive from the city.
