A Brief History

Brownsville Road, Brentwood’s main street, follows an old Native American trail that linked Redstone Old Fort, in today’s Brownsville, to the Ohio River. It later became a stagecoach and wagon route. The Point View Hotel, built along the road in 1832, hosted travelers including Presidents Andrew Jackson and James Buchanan, and its basement is reported to have been an Underground Railroad stop in the 1850s.

Brentwood was originally part of Baldwin Township. Residents pushed to form their own borough to get sidewalks, sewers, fire and police protection, and schools, and a court approved the split in November 1915. Brentwood was incorporated on May 15, 1916, and opened its park and pool on July 4, 1928.

Notable Landmarks

  • Brownsville Road: The borough’s main street and business district
  • Brentwood Park: The borough’s main park, with a pool, a quarter-mile track, and athletic fields
