A Brief History
In 1902, George Westinghouse bought land in the northern corner of North Huntingdon Township to build a new foundry. He named the town after Trafford, near Manchester, England. The Trafford Foundry began operations on October 3, 1903, and homes and businesses grew up around it.
Trafford was incorporated as a borough on August 29, 1904. In recent years, the former Turtle Creek Branch rail line was turned into the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, and the 5.9-mile section from Trafford to Murrysville opened in September 2017.
