A Brief History
North Huntingdon traces back to Huntingdon Township, established on April 6, 1772, and named after England’s Earl of Huntingdon. The original township was later divided into North Huntingdon, East Huntingdon, South Huntingdon, and Sewickley Townships.
German settlers took up land in the eastern section and Scots-Irish settlers in the west. Birch Spring School, the area’s first school, opened in 1782. Early villages included Circleville, Cavitt’s Mills, and Robbins Station. Read more on the township’s history.
General Edward Braddock’s 1755 military road passed through the area. Braddock’s Trail Park preserves part of that history.
